Guide for Social Entrepreneurs
What is a social entrepreneur?
A definition...
'Social Entrepreneurs are the equivalent of true business entrepreneurs but they operate in the social, not-for-distributable-profit sector. Their aim is to build 'social capital' and 'social profit' to improve the quality of life in some of the most 'difficult' and 'excluded' communities. They have frequently achieved ambitious goals and far-reaching change, in the most unpromising circumstances and with minimal resources - building 'something from nothing'.
From September 2002 to April 2005 the Community Council of Devon ran a modular Social Entrepreneurship training programme in South Hams ,Mid Devon, Torridge and North Devon, and a separate programme in Teignbridge. Many of us want to do something for our communities, start a project that helps people, or provides a solution to a local problem. CCD SE programme has assisted many people in taking the first steps.
CCD has now published a guide for new and potential social entrepreneurs in rural areas, based on the modular approach to the training programme. The 'Better Rural Futures, An Introductory Guide for Social Entrepreneurs' publication is available to download at no cost from this website.
