Environment
Our Devon environment is an asset of great value, but it is also under considerable threat. Our aim is to support communities to value and enhance the environment, reduce the impact of climate change, and promote the sensible use of Devon’s natural resources.
We encourage communities to take account of environmental issues in all of our areas of work with them and we run projects that are intended to tackle climate change issues directly.
Dealing with Changing Climate Conditions
The effect of climate change will be increasingly important. We believe we will all need to think about mitigation and adaptation.
Mitigation is about the actions we can take now to help reduce our impact on the environment. For example: reducing energy use or switching to renewable energy sources.
Adaptation is about adjusting to the way extreme weather conditions are already affecting us. For example: planting different crop types or giving your pigs carrot ice lollies or possibly creating a local Emergency Plan that will help support your community in the event of floods, blizzards or power cuts.
Third Sector Declaration on Climate Change
To show our commitment to our environment we have signed the Third Sector Declaration on Climate change. We have thought carefully about what the Declaration means for us. An action plan has been developed and approved by our board of trustees.
